Why the Earth is Warming
The causes of temperature increases over the past 100 years are occurring in the following sector.
Green House Gas / GHG is largely generated in three areas : ➀ Carbon dioxide (CO₂) and nitrous oxide (N₂O) from fossil fuels, ➁ Methane (CH₄) from agriculture, ➂ Refrigerant perfluorinated gas in industrial activities(refrigerator, air conditioner refrigerant, emitted during semiconductor production process, electronic products, subcontract industry, fire extinguishers, etc.).
What is methane?
When ruminants such as cows and sheep break down food by microorganisms in the digestive system
Greenhouse gases are produced through a process called 'gut fermentation' that produces methane as a by-product.
Methane emissions amount to 8.3 gigatons of CO2 per year, and methane is a serious concern because its global warming effect is 28 times higher than CO2.
Through a digestion process called intestinal fermentation, livestock burps cause as much as 6% of global warming.
This means that if a cow were a country, it would rank third and emit as much greenhouse gas as the whole of the European Union.
❶ Plant material in ⟶ ❷ Bacterial digestion/fermentation ⟶ ❸ H₂ CO₂ ⟶ ❹ Methanogens ⟶ ❺ CH₄ out
If cows were a country, they would rank 3rd in greenhouse gas emission.
Korea Livestock Farm Community
Korea is participating in the international community's efforts of carbon neutrality to respond to global warming.
Greenhouse gas emissions in the agricultural and livestock sector are 21.19 million tons of CO, accounting for only 2.9% of Korea's total emissions, but among them, greenhouse gases emitted in the livestock sector are 9.41 million tons of CO2eq., accounting for 44.3%
The livestock industry is pointed out as a major source of greenhouse gas emissions in the agricultural and livestock industry.
Accordingly, the Rural Development Administration is working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the livestock sector.
